Episode Eighty-Two – Talking Lyics, Comedy, and Story Telling with Mikey Mason
In which Jeb and Steve get to ask Mikey all about his Kickstarter’s, writing lyrics, telling stories, doing stand-up, and how his on-stage identity and real-life identity interact.
Guidelines for Running a Comedic Game
- Simple Rules (minimal look-up during play)
- Simple Concept
- Simple Characters (archetypes)
- Opposing Character Goals
- Player Investment (they must know that their characters have an effect on the world)
- Create a funny situation for the players to react to, with humor
- Set-up a “Straight Man” as a punchline for the jokes
- Players have to be ready for their characters to fail, and to laugh about it. This can be helped by setting their expections at the beginning of the game.
